The 2024-2025 awards season is officially off to the races, and we are back with our Awards Leaderboard because we live for all the season’s drama. We will be here all the way up until Oscar night, breaking down the winners and losers of the season and chronicling every major win from critics groups, guilds, and industry honors.
After the Golden Globes nominations for New York (NYFCC) and LA (LAFCA) film critics last week, and our first televised awards show, the Gothams, and the Oscar Shortlist announcement, the awards landscape is coming into sharper focus.
Topping our list with 43 wins, we have Anora. The Cinderella story turned farce about a young sex worker finding her ‘supposed’ prince charming. The Palme d’Or Winner is still cleaning up wins for Best Picture, Writer-Director Sean Baker, and lead Actress Mickey Madison. Coming a very close second is the midcentury Jewish drama The Brutalist, thanks to a healthy smattering of Best Actor wins for Adrien Brody. Brady Corbet and his screenplay also garnered a few prizes,
Coming third this week, we have Nickel Boys, which has shown up strong in the early weeks with a few Best Cinematography and Director prizes for cinematographer Jomo Fray and writer-director RaMell Ross. It remains to be seen if the film can maintain this momentum when we get outside the juried prizes like the Gothams. Still, after the week they have had, a cinematography Oscar nomination looks more and more likely.
We will likely have a very different list when we update again, but the season has begun, and we are more than ready to dive in. Which one of these early wins will matter in the long run? Like our leaderboard, it is all still very much up in the air, but we will be here each week to keep you up to date. So bookmark this page to stay in the know about which films take home the most prizes.
