Screenwriter John Pogue has sold his pitch for a remake of the 2002 French horror film "Malefique" to Paramount, says Variety. Producer Neal Moritz ("Stealth") will be overseeing the project. Based on a somewhat obscure original film, "Malefique" is about…

…"an eclectic group of four inmates sharing one prison cell. When they find a book of occult spells, they try to use its shaky magic to escape, but things don’t go as planned."

Mr. Pogue’s previous screenplays include "The Skulls," "Rollerball," "Ghost Ship," and "U.S. Marshals."
