Lions Gate Takes a Shine to Steig's "Pebble"

The late William Steig, author of the inspiration for "Shrek," will once again deliver some posthumous assitance to the movie world when Lions Gate adapts his 1969 story "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" for the big screen.

This project will mark Lions Gate’s second feature-length CGI feature, after the upcoming "Foodfight!" (finally) hits the screens.

LG plans to shorten the title to simply "Sylvester," but the story remains the same: It’s about "a donkey who discovers a wish-granting pebble but accidentally turns himself into a rock and becomes estranged from his family until they find him again."

The Lions Gate gang hopes to get "Sylvester" into production as soon as possible.
