Fan Favorite Actresses 2020

Last year, Scarlett Johansson ran away with the Fan Favorite Actress award by tallying nearly a third of all the votes cast, and we weren’t certain anything similar would happen this year, just because it seemed the competition was too good. Maria Bakalova came out of nowhere to stun everyone in Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm; Carey Mulligan, Frances McDormand, and Viola Davis all powered films to potential Oscar glory; and Anya Taylor-Joy became a household name with a trio of titles, including the massively popular The Queen’s Gambit.

As it turns out, Zendaya actually managed to thwart them all by matching Scarlett Johansson’s impressive win last year. The star of HBO’s Euphoria became the youngest winner of the Lead  Actress Emmy for her role in the series and starred in the filmed-in-quarantine drama Malcolm & Marie, earning 31% of all votes in our poll.

The order below reflects the number of total votes cast for each actor by users in a poll that ran on RT from March 10 to April 13.

Zendaya
The singer-turned-actress not only found time during quarantine to make a movie (Malcolm & Marie), but she also became the youngest Emmy winner in the Lead Actress category for her outstanding work on HBO’s Euphoria.

Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy has been ready to break out in a big way for a couple years now, and 2020 gave her the opportunity to flex her versatility in a period piece (Emma.), a superhero movie (The New Mutants), and a wildly popular miniseries about a chess prodigy (The Queen’s Gambit).

Margot Robbie
Moving up one spot from her fourth place finish in last year’s poll, Robbie proved without a doubt that she was the best thing about the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, as she headlined 2020’s Birds of Prey in all its candy-colored glory.

Carey Mulligan
Mulligan blew the doors wide open with her performance in Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman, helping the film to earn five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and a Best Actress nod for herself.

Sarah Paulson
Sarah Paulson has been one of the most dependable character actresses of her generation, and in 2020 she was the face of malicious intent in the psychological thiller Run and the Netflix series Ratched.
