Director Sam Raimi made a guest appearance at Sony Imageworks visual effects presentation for the Spider-Man 3 DVD, where he stayed long enough to say he was high on the new high-def transfer of his latest film.

“I’m glad that people have a chance to see this movie on Blu Ray DVD and appreciate perhaps a little bit more the detail that these guys put into each and every one of those shots,” said Raimi. “I’m thrilled you guys are covering the release of the picture on Blu Ray. I had a chance to see it yesterday on the new Sony system. It looked really, really great.”

The Spider-Man films get shown in Imax theatrically, but Raimi says Blu Ray is the best way to see his vision. “There’s a lot more detail in some of the shots than I’ve actually ever been able to see on the screen. As clear and sharp as it is, [even on] a very big screen, sometimes 35mm film, doesn’t even match the quality of this great Blu Ray transfer that they have. I hope it doesn’t reveal any mistakes that we made. It probably will.”

Spider-Man 3 hits DVD and Blu Ray October 30.
