As we all gear up for what will undoubtedly be the most subdued Halloween most of us have ever experienced in our lifetimes, it’s nice to know we can still kick back at home and have the living daylights scared out of us. The easiest way to do that, of course, is to watch a terrifying horror movie, but with so many offerings in the genre, which films are the most likely to pull us to the edge of our seat and shock us right back into the fetal position?

With all of that in mind, we decided to conduct a highly scientific survey to figure out what exactly is the scariest movie ever made, and to that end, we came up with a basic list of well-regarded classics and asked our fans on social media to contribute their suggestions. See below for our final list of 40 frightening horror flicks and vote for the one you think deserves to be called the Scariest Movie Ever!

Do you feel like something is missing from the list? Let us know in the comments!
