It’s been in development so long, you may have given up waiting on any casting news — or forgotten about it entirely — but IGN Movies reports that "We Are Marshall" star and bongo enthusiast Matthew McConaughey may be playing the title role in the feature-film adaptation of "Magnum, P.I."

For those too young to remember the show that made Tom Selleck a household name, "Magnum, P.I." — which aired on CBS from 1980 to 1988 — detailed the adventures of an ex-Navy SEAL hired by a reclusive novelist to handle security at his posh Oahu estate. It sounds a little far-fetched, and it was, but Selleck had a truly righteous mustache, and that makes up for a lot.

All he needs is a Vette.

Also rumored to be along for the ride are Steve Zahn, Tyrese Gibson, and, as sardonic manservant Higgins, William H. Macy. This is all decidedly a rumor at this point, but the casting — even if it’s fake — has no shortage of wacky potential…
