Variety reports that screenwriter William Monahan ("Kingdom of Heaven") has been tapped by Warner Bros. to pen a historical epic about the legendary explorer Marco Polo.

Matt Damon ("The Bourne Identity") will play the title character in a production based on Polo’s own autobiography. No word yet on a director, although, with "Kingdom of Heaven" and the upcoming "Blood Meridian," Mr. Monahan and director Ridley Scott do seem to enjoy working as a team.
