Summer’s always great for a handful of big, fun movies, but Spring of 2007 looks to be shaping up into something pretty special. Danny Boyle‘s "Sunshine" and Zack Snyder‘s "300" are atop my wish list, but tucked in at #3 is Edgar Wright‘s "Hot Fuzz." One of JoBlo’s lieutenants recently saw the flick, and he can’t stop raving.
I only skimmed through the piece, but this particular passage caught my eye: "HOT FUZZ is an action movie with explosions, car chases and some bad ass fight sequences. It’s a comedy with a superb script that includes swans, ketchup and stuffed monkeys. It’s also a horror film with a psycho killer on the loose. Which makes for a surprisingly ample amount of gore… seriously, they don’t skimp on the red stuff."

So it’s not just a cop comedy/satire, but a big fat genre stew, too. Man oh man do I love the Wright / Frost / Pegg team. If this thing’s even half as good as "Shaun of the Dead" and "Spaced," then it’s gonna be better than 75% of this year’s comedies. (It opens on April 20th.)
(Also, CHUD.com has it own (extremely positive) early review as well. Check it out here.)
