Depending on how you look at it, this piece of news either signifies extreme creativity in Hollywood or an utter lack thereof: The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Scott Rudin has acquired the rights to one of the year’s most successful bestselling books, and will be producing the picture for Disney.

Yes, it’s the latest in a series of literary adaptations for Rudin, who’s also involved in the upcoming Revolutionary Road and No Country for Old Men. But this one’s different, believe it or not: Rudin will now be helping bring The Dangerous Book for Boys to the screen. If you’re at all familiar with the book, you understand what a goofy idea a film based on it seems like; it’s a sort of encyclopedia of stuff (some of it possibly somewhat dangerous) that boys should know — how to hunt, build things, impress girls, et cetera.

Not the easiest adaptation in the world, in other words, but the book has sold a ton of copies, so someone was bound to try and make some movie money from it, and depending on which way Rudin’s team decides to go, this could be a really interesting project — either as a genuinely enjoyable film, or a complete and utter train wreck. Start laying your bets now.
