Director Michael Cuesta ("L.I.E.," "Twelve and Holding") has been tapped by Dimension to helm a New Year’s Eve chiller entitled "Shiver," which is about one of those creepy doctors who’s really fascinated by the fine art of … torture.

From Variety: "Dimension Films has bought the script "Shiver," by newcomer Mikey Wigart, for "L.I.E." helmer Michael Cuesta to direct and produce.

Thriller is based on a true story of a group of New Year’s Eve revelers who are stranded in a Minnesota snowstorm. They stumble upon a home occupied by a widowed doctor obsessed with torture as scientific study.

"When it’s done honestly, with serious intent, (the horror genre) can tap into the social fears and anxieties of our time," Cuesta said of his intentions in making the pic. "I find that exploring the grotesque, the abhorrent and what disturbs us is a chance to convey some universal truths about us and our society.""
