In the upcoming movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we find out what happened just before Episode IV: A New Hope. In the novel Star Wars: Catalyst, we find out what happened before Rogue One. Written by James Luceno — author of other Star Wars novels — the story follows scientist Garlen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen’s character) as he continues his research into focusing energy, only to learn he’s also working on something ominously named The Death Star.
