Disney’s The Lion King is shaping up to be one of the biggest movie events of the summer – and one of the biggest music events, too.
The soundtrack to the Jon Favreau-directed blockbuster is available digitally on July 11 and lands in stores July 19, the same day the movie hits theaters. And just like the movie it comes stacked with some of the biggest names in entertainment.
The soundtrack features 19 tracks, including the full version of Beyoncé Carter-Knowles and Donald Glover’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which has been wowing fans since a snippet was released earlier this month.
Also on the soundtrack: Revivals of the Tim Rice and Elton John classics you already love (“Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” and more); selections from Hans Zimmer’s epic score; and vocals by Carter-Knowles and Glover, plus Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Chiwetel Ejiofor, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright-Joseph, and John Oliver. Yes, they all can sing too!
There are also a few surprises for music fans, including a brand-new track from John and Rice, “Never Too Late,” which John performs, and the mysterious unnamed track 14, which has us – and the rest of the world – feverishly speculating.
Pharrell Williams also joins the Pride, lending his producing chops to fan favorites “Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
