The nominations for the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced by Awkwafina and Laverne Cox this morning in Los Angeles. On the film front, A Star Is Born led the field with four nominations, with three of them in the top four categories. On its heels with three nominations each were BlaKkKlansman and The Favourite, the latter of which scored two of its nominations in the category for Female Actor in a Supporting Role alone. In television, Netflix’s Ozark and Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel scored big with four nods each, with HBO’s Barry, Amazon’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and another pair of Netflix productions — GLOW and The Kominsky Method — picking up three nominations apiece.
The announcements came with more than a few surprising omissions. Despite widespread praise for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk and even an Emmy win for Seven Seconds, Regina King failed to garner a nomination for either, and the film was shut out completely, as were other heavily projected awards contenders like Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, Steve McQueen’s Widows, and Damien Chazelle’s First Man. While The Americans‘ final season was awarded with an ensemble nomination, neither of its leads made the cut individually, nor did Donald Glover earn a nod for Atlanta, which also showed up in the ensemble category.
The winners will be revealed in a ceremony airing live on TNT and TBS, Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific. Read on for the full list of nominees.
