Larry and Andy Wachowski chose Emile Hirsch to star in their adaptation of the old "Speed Racer" cartoon, and it looks like the Americanization of the series is moving ahead full steam: John Goodman and Susan Sarandon have been tapped to play the racer’s parents.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Goodman will indeed play "Pops," the car-building patriarch, while Susan Sarandon will be on board as Goodman’s better half. Still no word on who’ll be playing Speed’s girlfriend Trixie, his nemesis Racer X, or his monkey Chim-Chim.
The fraternal "Matrix" makers plan to shoot "Speed Racer" in Germany this summer, and we can expect the flick to hit multiplexes some time next summer.
