Fox Searchlight is about to mount a biopic on the life and death of Christopher Wallace (a.k.a. Biggie Smalls, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G.), says Variety, and the director they’re courting is "Training Day" helmer Antoine Fuqua.

The screenplay is being written by Cheo Hodari Coker, author of "Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G."

Wallace’s mother, who will also act as a producer on the project, says "nobody knows Christopher the human being. He was somebody with feelings, somebody with a heart. Christopher was a son, a father and a good friend. It’s time for people to know the real him."

Biggie was felled by a bullet at the age of 24; the identity of his killer is still under dispute to this day.
