It was once one of the most sequel-averse studios in Hollywood, but in recent decades, Disney has warmed up to the concept of the film franchise — and if the latest rumors are on target, Mickey and the gang are about to heave a stack of sequels our way.
According to an Ain’t It Cool News scooper calling himself Wall*E-Wonka, Disney’s warming up several plates of leftovers. Aside from a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean and third National Treasure — both of which have been recently discussed — the latest rumors have Cars 2 and a Tron sequel (in 3-D!) reaching theaters in 2011.
Slashfilm‘s Peter Sciretta has published a report on the AICN rumors, offering a helpful breakdown of what’s already been rumored/reported about each of the purported sequels; the spectrum runs from “probably gonna happen” (Pirates 4, Treasure 3) to “maybe” (Tron 3-D) to “huh?” (Cars 2). Personally, we decided never to put anything sequel-related past Disney after Bambi II, but head on over to both of the reports and decide for yourselves.
