The deadheads over at Dread Central got to sit down for a few minutes with screenwriter James Gunn ("Scooby-Doo," "Dawn of the Dead"), and it seems that Mr. Gunn is prepping to start work on his directorial debut, the slick & slimy sounding "Slither," which the young filmmaker describes thusly: "What I’m really being influenced by here is a combination of ’80s horror movies because what happens is this alien disease takes forms and works its way into the populace whatever way it can…Some of that change is zombification type stuff and a lot of it is mutation type stuff. It’s very Cronenberg-esque and it’s very influenced by the tone of Manga artist Junji Ito’s Uzamaki." Reportedly the tale of a small town overrun with malicious aliens, "Slither" begins pre-production in Vancouver this month. Stop by Dread Central for a few more nuggets of Gunn goodness.
