TIFF People’s Choice Award Winners Ranked

Since 1978, the Toronto International Film Festival has given out a People’s Choice Award in which attendees vote for their favorite film of the festival. And since 1978, the award has proven to be one of the most reliable bellwethers for the Academy Awards. Twenty-two People’s Choice Award winners have gone on to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, including The Big Chill, La La Land, and Shine. And seven of them were able to claim the Best Picture Oscar at the end of the night, like Slumdog Millionaire, American Beauty, and Nomadland.
