TAGGED AS: Awards, movies, razzies, rotten

After such a brutal year, you might think the Razzie Awards – the annual awards that celebrate(?) the worst of the worst in the past year of cinema – might take the day off. You’d be wrong.
(There will be an award acknowledging just what a struggle 2020 was for the industry, with a Special Governor’s Award for 2020 marking it as “The Worst Calendar Year EVER!”.)
Aside from the year itself, the other big winners/losers on nominations day were 365 Days – remember the Polish Fifty Shades of Grey-alike that got people all hot and bothered in the early days of the pandemic? – and the mega-budget Dolittle, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular doc with the gift of the gab when it comes to animals. Both films topped the noms tally with six nominations a piece.
Controversial titles like Sia’s Music and Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy – which became something of a critical punching bag despite much love from moviegoers, if you look at our Audience Score – also racked up plenty of noms.
And a little editorial note from RT: We protest any and all nominations for Hubie Halloween, the just-Rotten Adam Sandler Halloween comedy which is an absolute romp; we have similar feelings about Kristen Wiig’s nomination for Wonder Woman 1984 – her Barbara Minerva was one of the best things about the movie, according to many critics.
OK, with that off our chest, here is the full list of nominations for the 41st Golden Raspberry Awards. Winners will be announced Saturday, April 24, 2021.
