Actors must love it when they’re at a press junket to promote some little indie, and up pops a movie geek with a question about "Star Trek." But this line of questioning just led to some pretty intriguing answers.

While out promoting his new movie "Starter for 10," actor James McAvoy was approached by an IESB.net reporter, who asked him "Hey, are you up for the role of ‘Young Scotty’ in J.J. Abrams‘ new "Star Trek" movie?" And poor Jim McAvoy proved himself a pretty adept subject-changer.

Quote:

IESB: Have you been approached and would you do it?

JM: I was approached by a Klingon (laughing) and I ran away. I was very scared, he came at me with his batleth. (laughter) I’m a very big Star Trek fan, you see, and, but, no, I couldn’t possibly comment.

IESB: So you have been approached?

JM: Not in so many words.

IESB: So you would do it if you were approached?

JM: I don’t know to tell you the truth, I’m a Star Trek geek, fan, fan…

And on and on. So there you go, Treknuts. A Scottish actor you probably know (and enjoy) from stuff like "Children of Dune," "Wimbledon," and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" might just be the "new and young" Commander Scotty — a role originally played by the well-admired James Doohan.
