Director Lexi Alexander, whose "Green Street Hooligans" is presently playing in limited release, has decided to bail on the British rap flick "Life ‘n Lyrics" and set her sights on Disney’s "Labor Day," according to Variety.

"Lexi Alexander has quit as director of Brit rap movie "Life ‘n’ Lyrics," just days before it was due to start shooting. The $6 million pic, skedded to roll Sept. 11, is now on hiatus while the producers and financiers seek a replacement.

All involved are tight-lipped about the reasons for Alexander’s sudden exit, although they insist the split was mutual and amicable. Insiders say Alexander felt more time was needed for pre-production. There were unresolved issues over locations, casting and rehearsals. In the end, everyone agreed the production wasn’t ready to start.

Alexander, a German who lives in Los Angeles, has now returned to L.A. to work on the Disney project "Labor Day," to which she is attached."

"Hooligans," for its part, opened to some fairly solid numbers: $49,000 from only 7 theaters nationwide. (And another $800,000 over in England!)
