What do Tom Cruise, Guillermo del Toro, and Stuart Damon (a.k.a. General Hospital‘s Dr. Alan Quartermaine) have in common?

According to Variety, Cruise’s United Artists has optioned the rights to The Champions — the British TV series that starred Damon, Alexandra Bastedo, and William Gaunt — and tapped Del Toro to write, direct, and produce a feature-length adaptation. From the article:

Based on the 1968-69 British TV series, “Champions” will follow the adventures of a team of secret government agents who are rescued from a plane crash by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities.

Created by Monty Berman and Dennis Spooner, the original series…mixed adventure, humor and glamour into its plotlines.

Really, who among us couldn’t do with a little more adventure, humor, and/or glamor? Sounds like it’ll be even more fun than Lions for Lambs!
