George Clooney and Robert De Niro to Play Competing Crimestoppers

It’s always fun to see two of Hollywood’s biggest stars going toe-to-toe in a hard-boiled crime flick, and now it looks like we’ll have a new pairing to enjoy: Robert De Niro and George Clooney, anyone?

According to MTV.com, De Niro and Clooney will soon be co-starring in Marc Forster’s "36," which is a remake of the 2004 French film "36 Quai des Orfevres." In that film, two detectives battle to see who’ll be the first to bring down a brazen gang of armored-car burglars. Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil originally played the two plain-clothers who were forced to compete for a promotion, but this time it looks to be Bobby D. and George C.

Sounds like a pretty good start!

First up for De Niro is an adaptation of Art Linson‘s "What Just Happened," while Clooney’s always got at least three projects on the stove. (He can soon be seen in "Ocean’s 13.")
