Are you interested in taking a look at the center of the Earth? In 3-D, even?

Well, we can’t help you with the 3-D part — you’ll have to wait until July 11 for that. And actually, if you want to get technical about it, we aren’t talking about actual photos of the actual center of the Earth. But they are stills from this summer’s Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D, and director Eric Brevig probably knows at least as much as any of us about what it looks like, so what’s the difference, really?

If you’ve never read the Jules Verne novel (or seen any of the roughly six dozen other film adaptations), the official synopsis follows:

On a special trip to Iceland, a scientist (Brendan Fraser) and his nephew become trapped in a cave after a storm. They soon figure out the only path to safety is through the center of Earth.

We always knew there had to be a reason we didn’t trust those tricky Icelandic caves. Click on the photos for the rest of the gallery!
