WHAT IS Masters of the Universe ABOUT?

Masters of the Universe (1987) is one of the most recognizable fantasy franchises of the 1980s, born from Mattel’s wildly popular toy line. The characters first made its way to live action in the 1987 cult film, which starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, Courteney Cox as Julie, and James Tolkan as Detective Lubic. While the film struggled critically and commercially at the time, it later gained a loyal following for its ambitious attempt to bring Eternia to the big screen.
Now, nearly 40 years later, director Knight is reintroducing the world of Eternia in a new live-action epic designed to bring the mythology to a new audience.

In Knight’s Masters of the Universe, the story begins with 10-year-old Prince Adam crash-landing on Earth in a spaceship, separated from the mystical Sword of Power: the only link to his true home on Eternia. For 15 years, Adam (Galitzine} grows up unaware of his royal lineage and destiny. When he finally tracks down the sword nearly two decades later, it activates and transports him back across the universe to a planet he barely remembers.
What Adam finds is a world in ruin. Eternia has fallen under the tyrannical rule of Skeletor (Leto), whose grip on the kingdom threatens Adam’s family and the future of the planet itself. To save his home, Adam must reunite with his closest allies: the fearless warrior Teela (Mendes) and the loyal Duncan/Man-at-Arms (Elba). Guided by them and the Sorceress (Morena Baccarin), Adam begins to uncover the truth about his past and the responsibility he was born to carry.
