We know the 22nd Bond film is on the block for next November. We know Daniel Craig will be back for another turn as the tuxedoed spy. We even know Marc Forster is on board to direct. But what fans really want to know is who’ll play the next Bond girl, and thankfully for rumormongering types, MTV News might have some answers.
Rose Byrne, as some of you might recall, was mentioned as a candidate for the role in Casino Royale that ultimately went to Eva Green; so, of course, when MTV caught up with the Sunshine star recently, she was asked whether she’d been contacted about a part in the next installment. Byrne, predictably, denied any involvement in the film — but she then went on to say that, as far as she knows, the role belongs to her friend Abbie Cornish.
Now, the last time we checked, Rose Byrne wasn’t working casting for the Bond films. Still, the two actresses share a personal connection, and Cornish’s name has been floated as a possibility for awhile now, so there could be some truth to the rumor. If it pans out, the role would be a ticket to the big leagues for the Australian actress, who up ’til now has mainly been seen in more subdued fare, such as the upcoming The Golden Age.
