Venice Film Festival 2026: Movie Scorecard
The Venice Film Festival is the oldest of the big three European fests, alongside Cannes and Berlin, and this year’s slate features a wide variety of films from known auteurs to promising up-and-coming talent.
The most notable titles in the 83rd annual festival’s lineup include Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell in an intense, spy-heavy thriller, and Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson in a captivating role as Chris Hansen, the Dateline NBC host whose infamous 2000s news program went after online predators. Both films are highly anticipated and look to define the festival in some way. Other films that will surely be a major point of discussion are Florian Zeller’s Bunker, Danny Boyle’s Ink, and Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard.
Another film sure to generate chatter is the documentary Naza, which focuses on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza and was entered late into the competition. It comes courtesy of Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, whose 2023 documentary No Other Land won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
