Communications ready, sir. Communications officer as ready as she'll ever be.

Well, it looks like the rumors were true — according to a post published today at The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe Saldana “is in final negotiations” to join the cast of Star Trek XI.

As we discussed at the end of August, Saldana is up for the role of Uhura, the communications officer previously played by Nichelle Nichols. There was some speculation that Saldana’s part in James Cameron‘s Avatar might keep her from boarding the Enterprise, but if that was a concern, it’s apparently been worked out.

Saldana will next appear with Matthew Fox, Dennis Quaid, and Forest Whitaker in the political thriller Vantage Point, due out early next year. Star Trek XI remains on course for a Christmas 2008 release.
