Whedon Walks On "Wonder Woman"

Just before the weekend we learned that Warner Bros. had commissioned a second "Wonder Woman" screenplay, and now we now why: Fan favorite filmmaker Joss Whedon is officially off the project.

Whedon breaks the news to his loyal fanbase over at Whedonesque: "Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work." (Click here for the rest of his statements.)

The busy writer/director plainly admits that he had some difficulty with the project, and while he was hoping for a "slam dunk," all he really achieved was a roll around the rim. WB will probably move forward with their "Wonder Woman" flick eventually, but Mr. Whedon will be moving on to other things. (He’s been talking about this "Goners" project for a while now…)

At least now we don’t have to wonder who’ll be playing the super-heroine any more. Those rumors were getting pretty tiresome. No word yet on who’ll be replacing JW in the director’s chair, but you know we’ll post the news when it’s available.

(Is it too early to start begging Whedon for that "Serenity" sequel again?)
