What’s so super about Krysten Ritter? How about Ritter’s seemingly superhuman ability to get stuff done? Like the fact that the star of Marvel’s Jessica Jones found time to write her first novel, Bonfire, between filming ensemble superhero series Marvel’s The Defenders alongside fellow Netflix stars Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) and starting production on season 2 of her own series.
We caught up with the preternaturally busy Ritter ahead of her BookCon appearance this weekend for Bonfire, a psychological suspense novel to be released in November, and found out about her TV viewing habits — when, you know, she’s not performing feats of badassery in some dark corner of New York.

“I rarely get a chance to sit down and watch TV live. The only show that I really have to see the day it airs is Game of Thrones. Otherwise I catch up on everything on my own time on my laptop, binge-style. If I have a minute to watch the tube, or if I’m in my trailer over lunch, I will mostly just search for Friends, Seinfeld, and Law & Order reruns. Never gets old!”

“I really don’t even mess with the DVR and my boyfriend hogs it all with Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell and 60 Minutes.”
“I watch everything online whether it’s a streaming network or iTunes or HBO Go. Lately I have watched and LOVED Big Little Lies, Catastrophe, and Feud (which is pure candy). I try and catch up on John Oliver and Bill Maher on the weekends too.”

“Because my schedule is demanding, I have gotten really good at managing my time wisely. In addition to my work and prepping for the week ahead, I always find time do things that are just for me so that I can have a balance and sustain the long production schedule. Whether it’s a side creative project, writing, watching a few episodes of TV, knitting, or reading books, making sure I have a balance is important. The exciting part is that I love my job(s) and all of it feels like a hobby. I love writing, development, collaborating with other artists, acting in a great scene, and I love being on set with the crew.”

“I feel like it’s a binge show big time. This season maybe even more so than last. Even as I’m getting the episodes and reading them on the page, they ramp up so much at the end that it’s kinda hard to not want to just dive into the next one! So maybe try and savor it, but be prepared to cancel your weekend plans?”
Marvel’s The Defenders premieres Friday, August 18 on Netflix; Jessica Jones season 2 is expected in 2018; Bonfire will be published on Tuesday, November 7.
