He still isn’t starring in that Punisher sequel, but Thomas Jane isn’t looking for things to do — in fact, after he finishes slugging it out with fog-dwelling creepie crawlies in The Mist, he’ll be stepping behind the camera.

Variety reports that Jane is set to make his feature directing debut with The Dark Country, described as “a noir thriller” — and he’ll be shooting it in 3-D high definition.

The Dark Country, written by Tab Murphy, “concerns a couple who find their honeymoon to be a hellish adventure,” and will star Ron Perlman, Lauren German, and (surprise!) Thomas Jane. From the article:

“The Dark Country” will be released by one of Sony’s theatrical labels, and it is one of the first films being shot simultaneously in 3-D to take advantage of the slowly swelling ranks of theaters that are being retrofitted for 3-D to accommodate films like the James Cameron-directed “Avatar,” but can play in 2-D theaters as well.

The Mist opens November 21.
