The Sundance hit "The Squid and the Whale" has been purchased by Samuel Goldwyn Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film, starring Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg and Owen Kline, was directed and written by Noah Baumbach, who took home the best director prize and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting award from Sundance. The agreement states that Goldwyn will deal with domestic distribution, and Sony will handle international and home video distribution. The purchase price was not announced, but sources say it was in the area of $3 million.
