"Saw" Director James Wan Talks "Saw IV"

Writer/director James Wan is prepping for the big-screen debut of his latest project, "Dead Silence," on March 23 — but since he’s also part of the creative engine driving the "Saw" franchise, that prepping involves answering a bunch of questions about this year’s "Saw IV," expected in October. Luckily for fans, Wan is happy to oblige, and spilled a few (admittedly vague) details to IGN Movies recently.

Though no director has been named, and the script is still in development, Wan was able to provide a few clues as to where "Saw IV" might take the story — an especially pertinent question given the third installment’s ending:

Director James Wan with Cary Elwes in the first "Saw."

"That’s kind of a weird one to answer only because pretty much all of the ‘Saw’ films take place in so many different timelines…Sometimes the film touches here, but then it goes all the way forward but then it goes all the way backward again. It does touch on so many different time frames. Is it a prequel or sequel? It’s kind of all intermixed. We jump everywhere, and ‘Saw III’ did setup a lot of elements where ‘Saw IV’ may end up going."

Next on the docket for Wan and partner Leigh Whannell? Perhaps an excursion into sci-fi noir. Yes, you read that right.
