by | September 28, 2015 | Comments

This week on home video, we’ve got a hit action comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, a big screen adaptation of a popular HBO series, and a couple of worthy indie films, as well as a pair of new releases from the Criterion Collection. Then on TV, we’ve also got the second volume of an acclaimed series’ first season. Read on for the full list:

Spy (2015) 95%

When an arms dealer identifies several of the CIA’s top field agents, desk-bound analyst Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) gets her chance to go undercover in Paris. But during the course of her mission, Cooper must endure a string of indignities, from an unflattering cover story to a borderline-psychotic fellow agent (Jason Statham) who questions her competence at every turn. No details are available on its special features.

Based on the hit HBO series of the same name, Entourage catches up with Vince, E, Turtle, Drama, and Ari, who now runs his own studio. Vince agrees to star in Ari’s next film, but only if he’s allowed to direct it, too, and soon, the production spirals out of control. Bonus features include a making-of doc of the film within the film, interviews with the cast, deleted scenes, and more.

    SPY – 4/10; ENTOURAGE – 6/10

Was THE CONNECTION inspired by THE FRENCH CONNECTION or is it a direct remake? If it’s the latter, I’ll watch it.
