New M. Night Shyamalan Flick is "Happening"

We’d heard that M. Night Shyamalan was going to do either "Avatar: The Last Airbender" or (yes) "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" as his next project, but this just in: He’ll be doing an apocalyptic thriller for Fox called "The Happening." It’ll be ready next summer AND rated R, too!

Production begins in late summer on "The Happening," which is being described in pretty vague terms, but clearly has something to do with an apocalyptic event … and probably a twist ending. Fox wants the flick ready for next summer, so there: Now we have a new M. Night Shyamalan project to wonder about for the next 12 months. Plot-wise, we’re given this: "A paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity."

Ah, but here’s something cool: Seems that Fox chief Tom Rothman wanted the "Happening" to be extra scary, and so he worked on the concept with Night to make it quite a bit darker. Yep, "The Happening" will be the filmmaker’s very first R-rated project. Do I smell a comeback?
