TAGGED AS:

We’re in the thick of the summer movie season now, hot off the heels of Lilo & Stitch racking up the biggest Memorial Day weekend haul ever. June is no slouch either, with plenty of big titles ranging from adrenaline-fueled action to quirky comedies and animated treats.

We asked you to vote for your Most Anticipated Movie of June, and to no one’s surprise, the biggest movies of the month made the top five. Read on for the full list!

No. 1

Release Date: June 20, 2025

Technically, it hasn’t been 28 years since the release of 28 Days Later, which released back in 2002, but we’re only five years off, and considering 28 Weeks Later also opened about five years later than its title’s timeline would suggest, we’re in good shape. Plus, this time around, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are both returning to their original roles as director and writer, which just ups the hype factor. The new film centers on a father-son duo who leave the safety of their island haven to visit the infected mainland and run into all kinds of bad things. Unfortunately, it was reported back in January that, contrary to hopeful rumors, Cillian Murphy’s Jim will not appear in the film, but that hasn’t muted anticipation for the film one bit.

No. 2

Release Date: June 13, 2025

Live-action remakes of beloved animated classics have been hit-or-miss, and when it appeared that the new version of How to Train Your Dragon would be a near shot-for-shot recreation of the original, the cries of “Do we really need this?” intensified. But early screenings of the film have resulted in a rapturous reception on social media, so hopes are high for Hiccup and co. Not high enough to defeat 28 Years Later in our poll, but it would be foolish to bet against HTTYD becoming one of the bigger hits of the summer.

No. 3

Release Date: June 27, 2025

Third place was decided by a mere three votes, and when the dust had settled, it was the Formula One action drama F1 that took the lead. Brad Pitt stars as a former driver who comes out of retirement at the request of a friend who wants him to mentor a promising rookie, and thanks to his star power, as well as the promise of immersive, high-octane racing action courtesy of Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, it’s no surprise to see this one on the list.

No. 4

Release Date: June 6, 2025

Just behind F1, we have the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as an assassin trained by the Ruska Roma (the organization headed by Anjelica Huston in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, if you’ll recall) out to exact vengeance upon the people who murdered her father. In addition to Huston reprising her role, the film also features appearances from Ian McShane as Winston, the late Lance Reddick as the Continental Hotel’s concierge Charon, and, of course, Keanu Reeves as Baba Yaga himself. Early social reactions to the film have raved about the action, even if the story is a familiar one, and let’s be honest: No film in the John Wick canon would be worthy of inclusion without some kickass action scenes, so what else do you really need?

No. 5

Release Date: June 6, 2025

After Ballerina, there was a significant drop-off in votes for the remaining choices, but the film that garnered the most attention of the bunch was Wes Anderson’s latest. As per usual, the cast is absolutely overflowing with talent, from Benicio del Toro in the lead to Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Bill Murray, and more in supporting roles. The sprawling dark comedy follows a businessman with underground connections who attempts to shore up his affairs amid multiple assassination attempts and hostile financial schemes. Expect a lot of Anderson’s trademark whimsy and wry humor, as well as tongue-in-cheek performances from its game cast.
