The wait is finally over — the 2026 Emmy Awards are here!
The 78th ceremony kicked off with Law & Order: SVU star and this year’s host Mariska Hargitay singing an ode to TV screens to the tune of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll.” As the first woman to host the ceremony in 15 years, Hargitay honored the creator of the Law & Order franchise Dick Wolf with a penis joke. She also riffed on Nicole Kidman’s infamous AMC ad, and when Kidman protested, Hargitay said, “Zip it, movie lady, it’s TV’s turn tonight.”
And indeed it is TV’s turn to take center stage. When the Emmy nominees were revealed back in July, it was clear there were some heavy favorites while other categories had tight races often against itself (yes, we’re looking at all of you supporting actors and actresses). Will the second season of The Pitt, which leads the pack with 25 nominations, have a major sweep? Will Apple TV+’s hit comedy-horror-drama Widow’s Bay take top honors in the comedy rounds or will the final season of Hacks reign supreme?
