TAGGED AS: Horror
It’s only March but we’re already calling it: Lupita Nyong’o is the scream queen of 2019. In January, she wowed audiences at Sundance with her turn as a kindergarten teacher in the Australian zombie comedy Little Monsters (a movie in which she performs Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” on a ukulele); this month she leads Us, Jordan Peele‘s doppelgänger horror follow-up to Get Out. The film premiered at South by Southwest (and is Certified Fresh at 95%), where Nyong’o was singled out for a performance that some are comparing to Toni Collette’s landmark turn in last year’s Hereditary. Here, she reveals her own favorite horror films, including some long-loved faves and some she discovered through homework assignments Peele gave her in the lead-up to shooting Us.
Us is in theaters now.
