A
Return of the Killer Tomatoes! poster hangs on the RT office wall
(between
Eternal Sunshine and
Metropolis
no less), so naturally we’re typing the following joyful news with slightly
trembling fingers:
Attack
of the Killer Tomatoes! is due for a remake.
Uh-huh, the 1978 comedy/sci-fi/horror/musical camp classic
that spawned three sequels and a boring cartoon (that you probably ignored to
catch The Real Ghostbusters and Heathcliff instead) will be
gussied up for a new generation, showing those young whippersnappers what
cinema’s all about.
Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine will be sharing
screenwriting duties on the remake, with Nichols making his directorial debut.
The two gained Internets fame with their “Ask a Ninja” web series, which has
racked up over 80 million views.
“Attack
of the Killer Tomatoes! is the masterwork of a generation,”
Nichols stated. “We can only aspire to recapture that magic.”
