The first two installments in the series left some critics feeling nostalgic for Spice World (or even Disorderlies), but they earned Disney crazy money — so it should come as no surprise that the studio has announced High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Disney isn’t messing around this time, either — according to a press release distributed by the studio, HSM 3 will do a knee slide right past the Disney Channel and head directly for the big screen. You thought your daughters’ screams were ear-piercing when Zac Efron and the gang showed up on your television? Oh, just you wait.
Wondering what Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman will be up to during Senior Year? Read on:
“High School Musical 3: Senior Year” finds high school seniors Troy and Gabriella facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college. Joined by the rest of the Wildcats, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about their future. With incredible new music and exciting dance numbers designed to take maximum advantage of the big screen, this motion picture extravaganza delivers plenty of high-energy entertainment from East High’s talented ensemble.
The third High School Musical arrives under the weight of serious expectations, both from Disney — which has reaped the benefits of the first two installments’ record-setting viewership — and an ailing music industry, for whom the soundtrack albums have been among the few bright spots of 2006-07. Though the press release doesn’t mention a release date, production on High School Musical 3 is scheduled to begin this spring.
