It’s not exactly the sort of movie we normally cover here at RT Newsday (mainly because it doesn’t have a superhero, a zombie, a priate, or a wizard in it) but Baz Luhrmann‘s "Australia" is shaping up to be an epic of "Gone with the Wind" proportions. Plus Nicole Kidman‘s in it, and she sure is cute.
In the $120 million Fox production, Kidman will play a post-WWII upper-class English woman who finds herself in possession of a massive Australian cattle ranch when her husband dies. Apparently this ranch is "the size of Belgium." The actress will be returning to a part of Australia she last visited 18 years ago while making "Dead Calm," which was definitely one of her "breakout" roles — and not just because she got naked in it.
And if you’re a fan of Aussie actors, "Australia" should be your favorite movie of 2008: Hugh Jackman, David Wenham, and Bryan Brown are only a few of the players. (Safe bet that Paul Hogan won’t be around.)
Anyway, The Telegraph has the first shot of Kidman in character, and it’s attached to a pretty solid article on the current state of the project. Last time Luhrmann and Kidman worked together, the result was "Moulin Rouge," which (god’s honest truth) is a movie I absolutely love. So obviously I’m a little curious to see how this one turns out.
