Variety reports on what’s next for untraditional action director Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"): It’s the first flick in an action trilogy about a teenager who discovers the wonder of full-body teleportation.

Based on the novel by Steven Gold, "Jumper" is about "a teenager who discovers he can teleport from one place to another.

"Fight Club" scribe Jim Uhls will rewrite a script by David Goyer; production will begin in spring.

The 17-year-old protag first learns that he can "jump" when he escapes his abusive father.

Pic will be produced by Lucas Foster and Simon Kinberg, the producer and writer of the Liman-directed "Mr. & Mrs. Smith.""

New Regency enters the project with the intention of building a trilogy.
