The tide is high, but Kirsten Dunst is holding on.

Dunst, recently confirmed to be playing Blondie frontwoman Deborah Harry in Michel Gondry‘s forthcoming biopic about the band, has already had to deal with the message-board howling of disgruntled fans — but she can rest comfortably in the knowledge that she was approved for the role by none other than Harry herself.

In a recent interview with Spinner, Harry backed up Dunst’s assertion that “Debbie chose me for this role,” telling the site:

“She’s a really sweet person…I’ve met with her a couple of times and hung out with her socially. She’s just a sweetie.”

Does that mean she could handle the role, though?

“I think so. She’s probably capable of a lot of things she hasn’t been asked to do yet, and doing something that’s sort of left of center would be great for her.”

The article refers to the Blondie film as being “still in the planning stages.”
