While the ever prank-loving Lars von Trier continues to tease out his forthcoming sex epic, Nymphomaniac, in small, cryptic doses, Scandinavian site Montages has some revelations about the film: including its debts to Tarkovsky (again), Woody Allen (uh, okay), and the fact that it’s allegedly five hours long. (Scroll down for the English text.)

From Toronto, NYT’s Manhola Dargis on the continued rebirth of Matthew McConaughey (the McConaissance, if you must), with the actor drawing raves for his emaciated Method-ing in Dallas Buyers Club.

Talking to MTV, Keanu Reeves revealed the status of the will-it or won’t-it happen Bill and Ted 3: “There’s darkness out there that’s keeping it from happening… It’s that part of the story where it’s looking grim. It’s the dark period of the idea.” Bogus, Ted.

Disney have announced plans to screen its sort-of neo-animated classic The Little Mermaid in a cinema where you simultaneously can text, use your laptop, interact with the movie and plan the end of the world (probably). Welcome to Hell, but please — don’t abuse 911 calls if you’re upset about it.

Some sad news: Otto Sander, who played, among many roles, the angel Cassiel in Wim Wenders’ 1987 classic Wings of Desire [pictured, above] has passed away. He was 72.

Over at Movie Mezzanine, Christopher Runyon continues his exploration of cinema as “Authorial therapy,” looking at titles including Melancholia, The Fountain, Holy Motors, and The Tree of Life. Which also happens to be most of our weekend playlist.

In critic news you might have missed, MSN movies laid off their film review staff yesterday, including the great Glenn Kenny — but you can still follow his writing, for the time being, at his excellent, astute blog, Some Came Running.

Oh, and speaking of nymphomania: Samuel Fuller’s Shock Corridor turns 50 — here’s one of its many nutty scenes to savour.
