Conclave and Emilia Pérez top the 2025 BAFTA Nominations

The Brutalist, Wicked, and Anora also had a strong showing, with the former coming in with nine nominations and the latter two racking up seven each.

The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) nominations were announced this morning, and Focus Features’ Conclave dominated just about every category with 12 total nominations and Emilia Pérez was a close second with 11 noms, including a historic nomination for trans Actress Karla Sophia Gascón. Wicked, Anora, and The Brutalist also frequently appeared in the nominations this morning, signaling their continued favor this season and likely Oscar nominations later this month. The wildfires have raged throughout LA and set the entire season on its edge, but the award shows will go on despite the devastation. However, several shows have already announced simultaneous fundraising efforts to coincide with ceremonies this season.

Though many of the nominations this morning were expected, the lack of noms for Angelina Jolie, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, and Challengers might indicate likely snubs later this month. We will have to wait until they are announced on the newly rescheduled date of January 26th.

The BAFTAs will be awarded on February 16, 2025 in a ceremony held at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.
