Chris Tucker To Film Stand-Up Comedy Flick; Also Running for President

A busy slate for the notoriously choosy actor...

Chris Tucker is notorious for picking his roles deliberately — the man hasn’t made a movie in nine years that wasn’t Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2 or Rush Hour 3 — but he’s all ready to announce two upcoming projects: a long-gestating comedy where he’ll play the Commander in Chief of the U.S.A. and a stand-up film in the vein of Eddie Murphy‘s Raw.

Tucker told Rotten Tomatoes about the films on a recent press tour to promote RH3. “I’m gonna do this movie called Mr. President,” he said. “I’ve been working on [it] the last few years. I’ll play the first African American President. It’s a comedy and it’s gonna be a fun movie. Something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Tucker will also return to his roots in stand-up, which he continues to perform around the country. “I started doing stand-up before I got into the movies. I did about 20 cities to sharpen up before I did this movie, [to] get my timing back. I’m getting ready to do a world tour.”

He also draws some lofty comparisons to a few other classic live comedy films you might remember. “I’ll do 15 cities in the United States and I’m going to film it like a stand-up comedy film like Richard Pryor’s Live in Concert or Eddie Murphy’s Raw,” he added.

In the meantime, the man whose other career highlights playing Smokey in Friday and Ruby Rhod in The Fifth Element will be back in Rush Hour 3, out August 10.
