New Line Cinema is officially moving forward with a new installment in the Final Destination franchise following the massive success of Final Destination: Bloodlines earlier this year.
Lori Evans Taylor, co-writer of Bloodlines, has been tapped to write the upcoming sequel. Released in May, Bloodlines marked the franchise‘s return after more than a decade and became its highest-grossing entry yet, raking in over $286 million worldwide.
Taylor, who previously co-wrote Bloodlines alongside Guy Busick (Ready or Not) from a story developed with Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts, will also return as producer with his wife Dianne McGunigle. Franchise veterans Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor are back producing, along with Toby Emmerich. Warren Zide will executive produce.
Since its debut in the early 2000s, Final Destination has earned over $983 million globally, making it New Line’s third-biggest horror franchise behind The Conjuring Universe and It. Famous for its core concept of cheating death, only for it to come back with a vengeance, the series remains a crowd favorite. No release date has been announced for the next chapter, but fans of the franchise can anticipate more high-stakes thrills.
