Disney is officially developing a sequel to its smash-hit live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, the studio announced on June 26 — that is, 6/26, a playful nod to Stitch’s original name, Experiment 626. A teaser dropped the same day, featuring Stitch driving a hot-pink convertible across the Walt Disney Studios lot, shouting, “Get ready. Here we go!”

The sequel news follows the massive box office performance of the recent film, which has grossed well over $900 million globally since its Memorial Day debut, far exceeding expectations for what was originally slated as a Disney+ release. It’s now on track to become 2025’s first American billion-dollar film.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the live-action adaptation drew in audiences of all ages, with Maia Kealoha starring as Lilo alongside a photorealistic CGI Stitch voiced by Chris Sanders. The cast also features Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, Sydney Agudon, and Zach Galifianakis. The film was produced by Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin.

Details regarding the sequel’s plot and release date are under wraps for now, but fans can look forward to Stitch’s return to theaters for a brand new adventure.
