Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are officially stepping back into Panem. According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the duo will reprise their roles in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise.

Nearly eight years after Mockingjay, Part 2 closed the saga of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, Lionsgate is reigniting the series with a new chapter.

Following the success of 2023’s prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the studio is adapting Suzanne Collins‘ 2025 novel, which bridges the gap between the prequel and Katniss’s original story. Directed once again by Francis Lawrence and produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad SimpsonSunrise on the Reaping takes audiences back 24 years before the first Hunger Games film.

The story centers on a young Haymitch Abernathy as he faces the brutal 50th Hunger Games (the infamous Second Quarter Quell), where the number of tributes was doubled, making it the deadliest Games in Panem’s history.

While the film focuses on Haymitch’s fight for survival, fans can expect an epilogue (as featured in the Sunrise on the Reaping novel), depicting an older Katniss and Peeta, reuniting Lawrence and Hutcherson on screen for the first time since 2015.
